Top Cities and Towns to Visit in Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes

The Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes area of France is a marvelous region to visit. There are so many wonderful cities and towns that you can visit. From this area you can easily travel to the Rhône-Alpes which is easily one of the best winter sport destinations in Europe. The Sites to See

There are many UNESCO world heritage sites. For instance, you can visit the Place des Terreaux, which is a large public square with a fountain and statues in the center of the square in the city of Lyon, while here you can also see the famous Cathedral and Roman theater of the city. They are all great spots worth seeing in the city of Lyon.

Another spot to check out is Chambéry. Here you will find the Musée des Beaux-Arts de Chambéry. This beautiful art museum is housed in a stunning building. The focus is mainly on works from Italian artists of the 14th to the 18th century. Aside from the museum, the city is great to walk around and there are many restaurants that offer outdoor seating. You are sure to have a great time visiting this little city in France. While in Chambéry you can also visit the La Fontaine des Elephants. This is the fountain of elephants. A small town which is worth a visit is Saint-Nectaire. This little village is well-known for making cheese of the same name. There is a beautiful 12th century church you can visit. This is an Auvergne Romanesque church that has several impressive carvings. Interestingly it was actually built by monks to honor the Saint Nectaire. You can bike and hike around in the general area of the town. There is also a farm which is used for education. Children are allowed to approach several of the animals and there are often fun activities for them to do.

Ardes is a tiny village found in the Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes area of France. A good reason to visit is to see the animals at the Parc Animalier d’Auvergne zoo. This zoo is built on the slope of a mountain and is well-designed with large enclosures for several animals. This would be a great place to visit if you are an animal lover since you will be able to see many unusual animals.
