Traditional French Dishes to Try

There are some great French dishes you should try if you are lucky enough to get to visit France. The country is well known all around the world for having some of the greatest food, many come to this country to study their techniques and learn how to cook like a French chef. Meat Dishes

One of these dishes is the cassoulet. This dish consists of different types of pork, duck legs and white beans. This is a slow-cooked casserole that originated in the South of France. It is very much a dish of the rural regions which was made when the family would get together. Poulet basquaise (Basque chicken) is a traditional dish of the south west region of France. This dish is a chicken stew which has red bell peppers and tomatoes. Traditionally, the meat is made nice and tender using a sauce that is made of Esplette pepper, tomatoes, peppers and Bayonne ham. This sauce is known as “piperade”.


In Burgundy you can experience the delicious escargots à la bourguignonne. These are snails that have been cooked and contain butter with herbs like parsley.
